The future of genomic medicine and its implications for RNA therapies

About:
Organized by ɬÀï·¬'s D2R Initiative and AReNa, Quebec's RNA hub, this symposium at the 92nd Acfas Congress, will focus on the potential and challenges of developing RNA therapies. The event seeks to create a collaborative environment where the community can come together to discuss major issues in the field. We will explore three topics: collaboration, ethics and equity, and data science.
The rapid development of RNA technology, highlighted by the successful creation of mRNA-based vaccines, underlines what can be achieved when scientists from around the world join forces, and industry and governments invest to accelerate scientific progress.
This is the beginning of a revolution that will enable the rapid, low-cost development of genomics-based RNA therapies for new viral diseases, diseases with high morbidity (e.g. cancer) and rare diseases; which are currently incurable or very expensive to treat.
Despite these advances, the development and commercialization of these therapies still face challenges, including the need for greater collaboration between researchers, healthcare and industry. The application of these therapeutic approaches, particularly with regard to Indigenous communities, requires community engagement and leadership to enable implementation that takes into account the realities of stakeholders and respect for the principles of health equity and research ethics.
Our symposium will address these key issues in the development of RNA-based therapies, with a focus on fostering collaboration, leveraging AI and data science, and ensuring ethical research practices.
