Call for proposals: Foundational and Research in Motion

Published: 3 April 2025

D2R is pleased to launch the call for proposals for the Foundational and Research in Motion funding program.

This program integrates two previously separate funding programs - Foundational Projects and Research in Motion (RIM) - into a single, unified call. This program provides researchers with the flexibility to explore novel ideas and develop cutting-edge solutions that have the potential to lead to commercialization or clinical application.

The program offers two distinct streams, allowing researchers to choose the most suitable pathway based on the nature of their work.

  • Stream 1: Foundational Projects: Supports high-risk, high-potential impact research in all aspects of genomic medicine and RNA therapeutics, focusing on discovery and development without requiring preliminary data.
  • Stream 2: Research in Motion: Supports high-risk, high-potential impact research in all aspects of genomic medicine and RNA therapeutics, emphasizing interdisciplinary collaboration to drive discovery and development without requiring preliminary data. This stream is suitable for projects not yet eligible for funding from traditional agencies, such as the Tri-Agencies, but successful applications to such traditional agencies.

Application details:

Eligibility for principal investigators (PI):

  • ɬÀï·¬ faculty members.
  • Faculty members from D2R partner institutions (McMaster University, University of British Columbia, University of Ottawa, Université de Sherbrooke, and IRCM) who are included in the list of approved researchers approved by D2R. (If the PI is from a partner institution, at least one ɬÀï·¬ researcher must be included as a Co-Investigator (Co-I) in their application.

Awards: $350,000 (including research and training budget) for up to two years.
